Tarot Card for the Week of 9-30-12

With the Strength card as the tarot card for the week of 9-30-12, is this the week to bury the hatchet and reconcile with a loved one? This is also the time to tap into your inner strength and determination to overcome obstacles that may be in your way. Remember, faith and moral convictions makes you strong and compassionate. Beware of you or someone near to you becoming overly aggressive, intolerant, overbearing and domineering.  Since the Strength card is the number 8, it is a representation of power. However, this power must be used with good intention. At the end of the week, you decide if the Strength card fell in the upright or reversed position for you.

MAJOR ARCANA NUMBER 8

ASTROLOGICAL SIGN or PLANET: LEO, NEPTUNE, MARS

UPRIGHT: The Strength card, Major Arcana, denotes an inner power and energy, mastery of will and development of inner might. This positive card reminds you to have faith in yourself. Through mastering emotions and learning from both success and failure, the card represents a person who has reached a place where they are influential, without applying physical force, are able to weather the roughest of storms and are not likely to abandon the less fortunate. It also denotes an enormous capacity for forgiveness and compassion. This card is not as much about winning as it is about overcoming hardship and using well-crafted persuasion to bring others to your side. This card can also indicate that you may reconcile with a loved one if you can alter your attitude. Kindness and love will show you how.

REVERSED:
In the reversed position, the Strength card signifies possible set-backs, self-doubt, weakness, alienation, misuse of power, disharmony, pettiness and fear of the unknown. It can represent a person who victimizes others, which leads to isolation and discord. Abusing your authority will have negative effects on others and they will harbor resentment toward you. You can be intimidating and overbearing. On the other hand, the card can represent someone who is lacking in confidence and who might be needy of others to a fault. You might also be overtaken by narcissism, physical desires and envy.  In relationships, you may be feeling inadequate or insecure. You may be wondering if your partner’s feelings for you are as strong as yours. It may also indicate that someone in your life may be obstinate and overbearing.

What is ESP?

Extrasensory perception (ESP), also known as cryptesthesia and the sixth sense, is the ability to acquire information without the use of the five physical senses. Many people believe that everyone is born with one form or another of ESP. For some people it is more developed than others. Often, by the age of four or five years old, logic and reason start to take a stronger hold on the mind and these abilities are weakened or lost. However, there are those who do continue to develop their ESP, especially those individuals who are born into a family where psychic abilities are multi-generational and/or nurtured and encouraged.

The following are the abilities that fall under the umbrella of ESP.

Clairvoyance – Ability to see events from the past, present or future without the use of the regular five senses.
Clairaudience – Ability to hear sounds from the spirit world.
Clairsentience – Ability to feel or sense auras, vibrations and the presence from those that have passed on.
Claircognizance – Ability to psychically know something without pre-knowledge or being told.
Precognition – Knowledge of an event before it occurs.
Retrocognition – Ability to know events that have taken place in the past without previous knowledge.
Telepathy – Ability to transfer and receive thoughts and feelings from one mind to another without verbal conversation.
Psychometry – Ability to pick up impressions, visions, thoughts, or events relating to someone by holding an object belonging to that person.
Psychokinesis – Ability to physically move objects with one’s mind.
Psychic Mediumship – Ability to communicate with humans and animals who have passed on to the spirit world.
Premonition – A forewarning that something is going to happen.
Déjà vu – The feeling of being in an exact situation or place before.
Intuition – Ability to know something without the use of logic or conscious reasoning. Knowledge gained by feeling, not fact.

In the field of parapsychology, these paranormal events are referred to as psi experiences. There are two major fields of study: 1. psi-gamma, which refers to the ability to acquire information through nonsensory or nonphysical methods, for example telepathy, clairvoyance and precognition; and 2. psi-kappa, which refers to the ability to affect something or move physical objects through nonphysical methods, for example, psychometry, telekinesis or psychic healers. Its purpose is to understand the processes or causation of these events. The studies of psi phenomena are done under well-controlled conditions, in order to remove doubt and provide valid conclusions.

In the 1930s, Joseph Rhine and his wife began research into these events. Rhine and his colleague, Carl Zener, developed Zener cards, a 25-card deck containing five groups each of five like symbols, to be used to test the telepathic ability of an individual. Each card contains an image of either a circle, cross, square, star or wavy line. The 25 cards are shuffled and kept out of sight from the individual being tested. The subject is then asked to give the identity of the card. A scoring system of how many correct card matches made by the subject determines his/her level of telepathy. For example, a score of 10 correct out of 25 indicates some form of telepathy. A score over 10 correct shows a more significant level of abilities. The test should be taken several times to rule out that the answers were just by chance.

The use of Zener cards in ESP testing has been significant in measuring its accuracy. Also, changes in brain activity have been recorded during the testing of psychics who are exercising their abilities. All of this research will prove invaluable, given the increased amount of people who either claim to possess psychic abilities or who have experienced many of these phenomena first-hand.

Understanding the Psychic Empath

The Webster’s New World dictionary defines empathy as: feeling, intellectual or emotional identification with another. The term psychic empath, derived from empathy, is being used more frequently in the psychic and paranormal realms, and it refers to a psychic individual who is so intensely sensitive to other people’s emotions, pains and energies that they experience them as their own. They can probe deeply into another person’s soul and identify and experience feelings that may have been blocked for some time or unknown reason.

Like other psychic abilities, one may be born with it and it is often multi-generational. However, many people can acquire this after a near-death experience. It is also believed that everyone is born with some type of psychic powers, however much of this is still open to debate.

The following are some of the most common characteristics that empaths share with one another. It is also possible that some empaths may have stronger abilities in certain areas. They have a tremendous sensitivity to the feelings and energies of people around them whether they are acquaintances or not. They inherently have a keen understanding of various types of body language. They have the capacity to feel the deep-rooted emotions and pains of others.

Healers who are also empaths usually place their hands gently over or on the individual so they can pick up and focus on the needs or emotions of the person. Two powerful emotions that can be relieved by an empath are loss and grief. To lessen the negative emotions and pain, the empath can either draw out the negative energies from the person or replace them with their own positive energies. Another way in which an empath’s skills can be helpful is if someone experiences severe pain and does not know how to describe it to his doctor. Imagine going to an empath who can feel your pain problems and thus, help ease your struggle with the description or even minimize or heal the pain.

Empaths live with an extremely vigilant awareness of their surroundings. For example, an empath may feel overwhelmed and overly cautious when in a large crowd due to all the different emotions and energies he/she automatically picks up from the people in the room. There are exercises and practices empaths can do to help protect themselves physically and emotionally from any unwanted energies or emotions from others. Psychic protection exercises have been proven to protect and shield empaths and keep their chakras aligned and their auras protected to maintain a balanced mind, body and spirit.
